Our Tasai Damascus Dovetail Chisels are hand forged by master chisel maker Akio Tasai. He has developed a special high carbon blue steel which he feels is ideal for North American hard woods such as walnut and maple. He forge welds this steel, which forms the cutting edge, to a backing made of multiple layers of hard and soft steel and twists the backing material to form the shank. Mr. Tasai then individually hand tempers each chisel to Rockwell c65. The handles are best quality Japanese Red Oak. These chisels are made to a heavier pattern, with a more acute angle than traditional dovetail chisels and will stand up to the heaviest dovetail work in any wood. Blade length is 2¼˝ & overal length is 8½˝.

Mr. Tasai began as an apprentice at age 12 and now has over 50 years of experience. Tasai Damascus chisels are high valued and demand often exceeds supply
